Spe Salvi's programs in Nigeria bears the name Saint Augustine Hope and Transformation Initiative, which is a registered non-governmental incorporation in Nigeria. The Saint Augustine Faith Farm initiative is a new project we are undertaking. Our goal is to establish faith farm communities that will provide avenues for faith encounters with God by exposing young people to the beauty of nature and civilization - God's way of drawing us to himself. Our faith farms are places of meeting for young people who want to build discipline and acquire values, virtues and skills that contribute to their future success. We provide formation for a lifelong love that is nature oriented, learning, and dignified work as alternatives to prostitution and internet fraud that is becoming prevalent in our young population today. This initiative will in the long run assist in poverty and hunger alleviation.
St. Augustine Faith Farms are in collaboration with the Holy Childhood Association of Okigwe Diocese, dedicated to fostering missionary cooperation among children. They are also places where we build communities through group activities, peer connections, and volunteer opportunities.
Because our farm initiative is driven by the need to modernize farming in our communities, we mechanized most of our farm operations. We offer training in modern farming techniques and facilitate access to farming tools and inputs for our local communities and trainees. Our goal is also to create job opportunities driven by Christian principles of service and compassion on our farms.
St. Augustine Farm Project Phases
Acquisition and preparation of Spe Salvi farm lands.
This phase is still ongoing. We have only acquired about 8 acres of land at the moment and need more for our operations.
2. Acquisition of tractors and other tools for farming.
June 20, 225. Still in the process of negotiating purchase for smaller sized tractors and still raising funds for this phase of the project.
3. Employment of initial Spe Salvi farmworkers/staff for the preparation of already acquired pieces of land.
We have one employee at the moment and looking forward to employing our next staff as soon as we have the needed facility for their housing.
4. Building of Faith farm houses, dormitories and community centers/chapels
We are still fundraising for this phase.
On September 22, 2025, our good (wooden box, 600kg) from China, containing our walking tractor arrives Lagos, Nigeria. We have to immediately mobilize transporting it to our Faith farm location in Uturu, Abia State. This is another 630km (9-10 hours) drive. Our friend, Mr. Raphael, did the job of transporting our tractor to its new home. He arrived very late at night and had to spend the night with my mum in the village. The off loading of the goods will have to wait till the next morning. Click here to watch the video of the delivery of our tractor.
The tractor is now in Uturu, where our farm is located. We invited Mr. Francis, one of our team members and beneficiary of our education scholarship to try assembling the tractor. He did a good job. But it appears we still need the help of professionals to set the engine right on the chassis. It is a 18hp two wheeled hand tractor, with a radiator. We have contacted local suppliers in Nigeria. They have agreed to come as soon as we are ready. Now we have to build our farm house and get our workers in before they can come. They will also train the operators of the tractor when they come. These trained operators will now be responsible for training those who attend our faith farm skill acquisition initiatives.
Other tractor accessories in the purchase (and in the picture carousel) include: rotary tiller and ridge, mower, double disc plough, single plough and a double plough.
By December 2025, we will begin the building our our first faith farm house. This will house our first permanent workers at the farm. It is a two room complex, with a kitchen, a bath, a shower and a storage. This will house two workers. We want our farm to always be a community. By January, by God's grace, our faith farm will have its inhabitants. Before this is built, we will have to build a bridge connecting our farm to the major road. This is be the next project. Stay tuned to the pictures and videos of this progress of this phase of our project.
We began preparing St. Augustine faith farms. This involves the planting of the surrounding plantations that will give it its beauty scenery and green ambience. We want the participants of our faith encounters and our skill acquisition programs, and every other visitor to our faith farm to enjoy the experience of their stay at our farms and be attracted to the beauty and dignity of labor by the things they see around. The plantations and the produce will also feed our visitors and participant. We want our farms to be self-sustaining too. Visit our you tube and TikTok pages to see the progress of our work.
